Our stuff is holding. us. back.  The more we hold on to, the less can come in.

When we are older, we can’t take it with you. When we are younger, we get tired fast of moving it around. Ugh. And every time we go to make the “Keep” “It Goes” or “Undecided” piles, somehow the largest pile, “Keep” is the opposite of our intention!!!!!

Given my inspiration to downsize to become more flexible and portable…requiring I have less possessions to move and fulfill my “portable” desires, takes some serious hard core choices so I would succeed in downsizing.

Borrow if you like…these are the 3 ..somewhat dramatic questions that worked for me. Or use them as a model and come up with your own hot decision makers:

  1. If I had to take everything I owned with me only in my car, would this make the cut? In other words, is this going with me til I die 🙂 (I told you they got dramatic) If it isn’t an immediate “well yeah!” then it goes Ba Bye!
  2. Would I be devastated if this burned in a fire? (Come on..dramatic has more impact 🙂  If not, Boom. In to the “Goes” or the “Share” piles.
  3. Finally, would somebody (else) cry if I threw this out or be thrilled if I gave it to them? Meaning it’s not staying for sure…it’s just a matter of will it be “recycled” to someone else’s shelf, closet, wall or love…disposed of.

These 3 will cut through the attachments, the emotion, and the frustrations.  These cut to the core, will yield better results giving away more than keeping.

Less is More.

Borrow or share the questions.  Come up with new suggestions. Post your results. Winning can be contagious.

Now if only we would just get started already!
